“They Pick Holes Out Of Your Leadership, Decisions”: Hardik Pandya Sent Firm Captaincy Warning

The Mumbai Indians are set to play the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday 22 March under the direction of Hardik Pandyo. Hardik replaced Rohit Sharma as the captain of the franchise after MI traded him from Gujarat Titans before the IPL 2024 players auction. From his first season in 2022, the 30-year-old guided GT to their 1st IPL title and advanced to the final last season before losing to Chennai Super Kings (CSK). While MI’s decision to remove Rohit as captain received huge backlash from fans, former Australia batter Tom Moody labelled Hardik as proven “performer”, and said that the all-rounder will get support from his teammates in the upcoming season.
“He has a back up team that will ease the burden of inconsistent performances. Moody stated on ESPNcricinfo that he will receive the support of both Indian and foreign cricketers because of his renowned status as a cricketer and all- rounder.
However, Moody warned Hardik that captaincy becomes tricky when you start losing matches, adding that people will start pointing out loopholes in the decision making.
The ex SRH head coach stated that captaincy becomes a different game after losing two or three games and having holes picked out of your leadership and decisions made by you.
While suggesting that Hardik has proved himself as a captain in the past, Moody reaffirmed that his teammates’ support will be key.

When you are winning, you may make the most insane decisions and yet people elevate them to genius strokes. Hardik has the credentials as the Gujarat Titans leader, he is tactically sound and he will be supported by all the senior players, both Indian and overseas,” he said.
In his first game as MI captain, Hardik will face his former team GT on Sunday, March 24.
