‘There will be nothing awkward’ – Hardik on leading MI after Rohit
Hardik Panyda is hoping to catch up with Rohit Sharma soon. Speaking about the captaincy change at Mumbai Indians, a change which had the cricketing ecosystem in the nation practically split, Pandya stated, “We have not seen each other for the last few weeks. We are all professionals and we will certainly have a chat when the team gathers and he comes in. ”
Pandya, who led Gujarat Titans for the last two years, replaced Rohit at Mumbai Indians as captain. Pandya was evasive when asked if he’s chatted with Rohit. He answered the question with a “yes and no” since He was traveling and playing.
Rohit worked with Pandya both at the franchise level of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the national team. He will be Rohit’s vice captain during the Twenty20 World Cup in June. During the ODI World Cup last year he was Rohit’s vice captain as well.
Pandya mentioned that it won’t be any different as he will be there for me in case I require his assistance. “His role as captain of the Indian team assists me since this team has accomplished a great deal under his leadership. From now onwards, it will be about carrying forward what he has achieved, so there will be absolutely nothing awkward. He’s been my coach for ten years and I know he’ll be holding my shoulder all season long. Rohit led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles.
Pandya reacted to the backlash from fans on social media by saying he can not control the uncontrolable. He stated he avoids focusing on issues that he has no control over. At exactly the same time, we recognize the fans for their efforts to fame as well as love. While I respect their opinion, I am also very excited. ”
Pandya revealed that returning to Mumbai Indians was a homecoming of sorts and he is excited to be where he started his IPL journey in 2015. The journey will continue and it’s been an incredible experience returning to exactly where it all began. The welcome was wonderful, very warm, very exciting. It feels fantastic, my journey began from here and I never thought that ten years down the road, I’ll be leading this side. It feels very good.”
Pandya also disclosed that he is fit to bowl and he will be looking forward to finishing the games from the side. I will play as an all rounder in this IPL and aim to complete and secure as many wins as possible. He also felt that Jasprit Bumrah’s availability will be of immense help to the side. We are fortunate this year that Jasprit Bumrah is on all cylinders. (We’re) very excited to have him back full throttle and him guiding the youngsters in the camp.” Bumrah was not around last season with a back injury.
Hardik Pandy’s first match as Mumbai Indians captain will be against his previous side, Gujarat Titans, in Ahmedabad on March 24. Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore: IPL gets underway on March 22.
