- Meeting took place between Rohit, Agarkar and Rahul Dravid
The meeting lasted for two hours between captain Rohit Sharma, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Rahul Dravid regarding the selection of the Indian team for the ICC T20 World Cup. The last date to announce the team for this global tournament is May 1 and the Board of Control for Cricket in India can announce the Indian team in the next 48 hours.
There was a meeting between the coach and the captain
According to media reports, a meeting was held between Rohit, Agarkar and Dravid to finalize the name for the T20 World Cup. Dravid came to New Delhi for the meeting and met Agarkar and Rohit. This is not the first time that these three have met. Earlier, they had also held a meeting in the evening on 26th April and discussed only the general strategy. It is believed that all the things have been decided in the meeting held on Sunday. However, BCCI has not given any official information about the meeting.
Selection will not be based on IPL
There was an overall discussion on the performance of the names discussed in the meeting, whereas the performance of the IPL was not discussed. Considering the slow pitch of West Indies, it is believed that some top scorers of IPL may miss out on a place in the team. According to media reports, in-form Sanju Samson and fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, who can make an impact in the current season of IPL, will not get a place. At the same time, it is considered certain that Virat Kohli will play in the sixth T20 World Cup.
The first batch will leave on 21st May
The T20 World Cup is to be played from June 1 and the Indian team's first match is against Ireland on June 5. To participate in this tournament, the Indian team will go in two batches. The first batch of the Indian team will leave on 21st May. The final match of IPL 2024 will be played on 26th May and the selection of playoff teams will be almost decided before 21st May. In such a situation, the team of the players who will not be able to qualify for the IPL playoffs will go in the first batch, while the rest of the players will leave on May 27, the second day of the IPL final.
Announcement will be made on May 1
BCCI will announce the Indian team for the T20 World Cup on May 1. New Zealand announced its 15-member squad on Monday. However, it is believed that the announcement of the team is being delayed due to the absence of BCCI Secretary Jai Shah. Jay Shah is currently busy with the Lok Sabha elections and the team will be announced when he is available.
