- Now there is tough competition between 6 teams for 3 places
Yesterday, the 63rd match of IPL was canceled due to heavy rain in Ahmedabad. The match between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium was eventually abandoned due to rain and a wet pitch. In the end, both the teams were given 1 point each and KKR benefited from this while Gujarat also got 1 point but Gujarat team is out of the race for the playoffs of IPL 2024. Now KKR will be able to retain its place in the top-2 while there is now a tussle between 6 teams for the remaining 3 places.
Kolkata has qualified for the playoffs
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had already qualified for the playoffs and have now reached the top-2 with 1 point to qualify for Qualifier-1, which means they will have two chances to reach the final. Even if KKR loses Qualifier 1, it will still get a chance to play in Qualifier 2. The final is played between the team that wins Qualifier 1 and the team that wins Qualifier 2. An eliminator game is played between the third and fourth placed teams and then the winner of the eliminator meets the loser of Qualifier 1 in a Qualifier 2 match.
Competition between these 6 teams
So far only KKR has been able to qualify for the playoffs while there is a fight going on between 6 teams outside Gujarat for three places. The interesting thing is that the mathematics of top 4 can become clear only after the Chennai-Bangalore match. Currently, KKR is first with 19 points, Rajasthan is second with 16 points, CSK is third with 14 points and SRH is also fourth with 14 points. Apart from this, RCB is at fifth place, Delhi is at sixth and Lucknow is at seventh place. All three teams have 12-12 points. These three are also in the race for the playoffs. With this, teams from Gujarat, Mumbai and Punjab have been eliminated.
