IPL 2025: Who will the teams retain after the new rules? View possible list
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced new retention rules ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Under this new rule, each franchise can retain a maximum of six players, including retention and Right to Match (RTM) options. Each team can retain a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players, while there is no limit on the number of foreign players.
Who will be considered uncapped players?
According to this new rule, any Indian cricketer who has not played international cricket in the last five years will be considered an uncapped player. Apart from this, even if the player does not have a BCCI central contract, he will be considered an uncapped player. This change can be seen as a new opportunity for the players.
How much will teams' auction purses be reduced to retain players?
According to the new rule, a huge amount will be deducted from the purse of the teams on every retention. On first three retentions Rs. Rs 18 crores. 14 crores and Rs. There will be a cut of Rs 11 crore. On fourth and fifth retention Rs. 18 crores and Rs. There will be a cut of Rs 14 crore. That means if five players are retained then a total of Rs 75 crore will be reduced from the teams' purse.
