A mega auction will be held before the 18th season of IPL. This time all the franchises will be seen in a new look before the next season. BCCI has to take some important decisions before the auction. For this reason, the board also held a meeting in Mumbai on July 31 to consult all the franchise owners. However, no announcement was made after the meeting. The biggest question in the minds of the fans is how many players will the franchises be allowed to retain before the next season and whether there will be an RTM option or not.

Important update regarding retention

When the BCCI held a meeting with the franchise owners, reports came out that most of the franchises were in favor of cancelling the mega auction. However, according to a report, the BCCI has made it clear that the mega auction will not be canceled. Apart from this, each franchise can retain a maximum of 6 players. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether all these players will be retained directly or some players will be kept in the team under the RTM card rule.

It is worth noting that the last mega auction of IPL was held in 2022 and at that time there was no Right to Match Card rule. But this time the RTM rule may come back. Before the mega auction for IPL 2022, the franchise was allowed to retain 4 players. The BCCI is also confident of increasing the purse money of the franchise before the mega auction.

In favor of conducting franchisee mini auctions

After the meeting held on July 31, there were reports that KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan was also among the owners who were in favor of holding a mini auction. He also gave his advice. However, this led to a heated argument between him and the Punjab Kings co-owner. However, Ness Wadia later denied such reports on social media.
