According to a report, the 3+1 rule will be implemented to retain players in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
3+1 rule will apply
Till now, a rule was made to retain 4 players in the mega auction. Any franchise can retain its 4 key players. But the IPL 2025 mega auction has changed the retention rules. Now the franchise will be able to retain only 3 players, while one player will be included in his team through the Right to Match card. This has come as a big blow to the franchises. The franchises demanded an increase in the retention number from the BCCI, but the BCCI reduced the retention number by one more. This is bad news for all those franchises who were dreaming of retaining 8 players.

KKR also suffered a setback
IPL 2024 was won by Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR has won the third trophy. In such a situation, apart from KKR, there was a demand from many franchises that they want to retain 8 players in the mega auction. But now according to the rules in force, any franchise can retain only 3 players, while one player can be bought through the Right to Match card.
