IPL 2025: BCCI can take this big decision regarding mega auction
- All league matches of IPL 2024 are over
- Qualifier-1 will be played between Kolkata and Hyderabad
- Eliminator match will be played between RCB and RR
IPL 2024 is in its final stages, with 4 matches left in the season. The final match of IPL season-17 will be played on 26 May. On the other hand, BCCI has started preparations for IPL 2025. A mega auction is scheduled to be held later this year. BCCI is planning to make some important changes in this mega auction. Emphasis is being laid on increasing the number of players retained in the mega auction. Even IPL team owners have different opinions on this.
'What is Mega Auction?'
In this auction which lasts for several days, players are collected and according to the rules of IPL, they are sold to the highest bidder. A team consists of a minimum of 18 players and a maximum of 25 players, with no more than eight foreign players.

'What are the rules for retaining players?'
Currently, as per the retention rules for the auction, a team can retain a maximum of 4 players. In such a situation, teams get a chance to retain 4 players. Any team is allowed to have a maximum of 2 foreign players.
'The decision to retain 8 players was wrong'
On April 16, BCCI held a meeting with the owners of IPL teams regarding the mega auction in Ahmedabad. In which there was discussion on increasing the number of players retained in the mega auction. IPL team owners had different opinions on this. While many team owners welcomed the proposal, others opposed it. Due to the absence of big names in the auction, IPL team owners will not get a chance to build a strong team by retaining 8 players.
