But in IPL, Super Over can be played even without the match being tied. Let us tell you when this unique rule will come into effect.
When is a direct super over played?
So far, a total of 3 matches in IPL 2024 have been canceled due to rain. The team has also suffered a lot due to this. Gujarat Titans were also in the race for the playoffs, but Gujarat did not get a chance to play the last two matches and both the matches were cancelled. Due to which Gujarat was out of the playoffs. For this reason, reserve days have been kept for all 4 playoff matches. Even if the match is canceled due to rain on the match day, the match will still be played on the reserve day, but have you thought that if the match is not played even on the reserve day, what will be the result of the match. In such a situation, the umpire will try to ensure that the match lasts for at least 5 overs. But if the match is not played even after 5 overs, then the Super Over will be played without the match being played.
When will the playoff matches be played?
If the rain does not cooperate even on the reserve day, then the match will be played as a super over, so that no team suffers. If this happens, it will be the first time in the history of IPL that a team will play a super over without the match being tied. The first qualifier of IPL 2024 will be played in Ahmedabad on 21 May, after which the eliminator match will also be played in Ahmedabad on 22 May. After this, the second qualifier will be played on 24 May at Chepauk in Chennai, while the final will be played on 26 May at Chepauk itself.
