IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant appointed Delhi Capitals captain for season
Rishabh Pant was named captain of Delhi Capitals for the upcoming IPL season, marking a remarkable chapter in his miraculous comeback journey. He was out of cricket for 14 months after a terrible car accident back in December 2022.
Rishabh is back as our captain and we’re happy to have him. Grit and fearlessness have always dictated his brand of cricket, and not surprisingly, even his road to recovery.
Parth Jindal, the chairman as well as owner of DC, stated in a press release that he wants to witness him walk his team out once again as they look forward to a fresh season with renewed enthusiasm and energy.
The Capitals have been training along with the left hander in Visakhapatnam ahead of their 1st game in IPL 2024 against Punjab Kings at Chandigarh on 23 March.
The IPL begins on March 22.
The BCCI had earlier cleared Pant to play as wicketkeeper batter in the IPL this year.
“After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming IPL 2024,” the board had stated in a medical update.
Delhi head coach Ricky Ponting too had given a thumbs-up for the way Pant was playing at nets during the team’s camp.
“We missed him incredibly last year. The whole tournament missed him. Rishabh brings so much energy to the team. Ponting stated he has a smile on his face, is hitting the ball as well as ever and generally lifts all his teammates around him.
Last year’s Australian veteran David Warner had led the Capitals and they finished ninth in the 10-team league with five wins and nine loses ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
