IPL 2024: Gautam Gambhir Sets Simple Target For 24.75 Crore Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc is the most expensive purchase in IPL history and will unquestionably be in the spotlight when the brand new season starts on March 22. The Australian, who was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders in an auction for Rs 24.75crore, is likely to deliver a few noteworthy performances as the club aims to win its third T20 league title. But, while many feel Starc will be under added pressure because of his price tag, KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir doesn’t think that would be the case.
The target for the Knight Riders remains ending their trophy drought. All Gambhir is hoping for is to see Starc do what he has done for Australia over the years.
“I don’t think the price tag will be an added pressure for him. Gambhir expressed his wish to see Gambhir perform for KKR in similar manner as he has done for Australia in international cricket after attaining Kolkata for T20 league game.
Gambhir joined KKR after leaving his role as a mentor with the Lucknow Super Giants franchise. Gambhir even quit his role as a politician with the Bhartiya Janta Party before the start of the IPL, confirming his priorities.
“I have always mentioned that KKR to me is not a franchise, but an emotion. I am thus happy to be back,”
Gambhir stated that he anticipates expectations and aims to live up to them and make the fans happy.

The Knight Riders last won the IPL with Gambhir as their captain. The franchise has failed to achieve any success in the T20 competition since the southpaw left the organization in 2017. The Knight Riders came very close to winning the title when they reached the final in 2021, but their performances without Gambhir were very average.
The franchise’s management would be hopeful of rekindling the old magic as Gambhir returns.
