Happy Birthday Sachin Tendulkar: Why was there never a bid on Tendulkar in IPL?
- Sachin turns 51 today
- He is the only player in the world to score 100 centuries and play 200 test matches.
- Even before the start of IPL, there was a fear in the minds of Lalit Modi and BCCI.
Today (April 24) is a very special day for the God of Cricket, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin has turned 51 today. He is the only player in the world to score 100 centuries and play 200 test matches. As soon as Sachin comes to the crease, there is an atmosphere of fear among the bowlers.
After establishing his dominance in international cricket, Sachin also made a splash in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The first season of IPL was held in 2008. Lalit Modi is considered the father of IPL.
When Sachin increased everyone's tension in IPL
The format of IPL was kept in such a way that every player was auctioned. Franchises make aggressive bids to include their favorite players in the team. But this was the reason why even before the start of IPL, there was a fear in the minds of Lalit Modi and BCCI. There was a fear that how the God of Cricket would bid for Sachin and other legendary players? There was a fear in everyone's mind that his speech might upset the fans who consider cricket a religion. This one thing increased everyone's tension.
Then Lalit Modi came up with this trick
But once again Lalit Modi came forward and got success. He advised that some legendary players including Sachin should not be sent to the auction. BCCI officials also liked it and approved it. In this way the biggest tension of IPL was removed. After this, 5 players were made marquee players. Meaning, some franchises will already include him in their team. These 5 players were Sachin, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni and other players decided to go to the auction.
Sachin was signed by Mumbai Indians, Ganguly by Kolkata Knight Riders, Sehwag by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Dravid by Royal Challengers Bangalore and Yuvraj by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). Whereas other players including Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided to go to the auction.
Sachin played 6 seasons, got this much fee
Sachin was signed by Mumbai in the very first season. For this, the franchise paid a fee of Rs 4 crore 48 lakh 50 thousand to Master Blaster for one season. Sachin's fee remained the same till the 2010 season. After this his fees increased to Rs 8 crore 28 lakh. Sachin retired from IPL after the 2013 season. Sachin used to play only for Mumbai in IPL.
Whereas Dhoni was bought by Chennai Super Kings in the auction. For this, the franchise had to bid 1.5 million dollars, which was Rs 6 crore in rupee terms at that time. In the first season, each franchise received a total of Rs 20 crore to buy all its players in the auction.
