As popular as the RCB team is, its owner Vijay Mallya is equally famous for his luxurious lifestyle. Today RCB is a team which is followed by millions of people on the internet. Even today there is often a debate among people whether Vijay Mallya is still the owner of RCB or not.

Is Vijay Mallya the owner of RCB?

Vijay Mallya purchased the RCB franchise in 2008 when it came into existence. Actually, Mallya was the chairman of a company named United Spirits at that time, but RCB was bought by Mallya alone. Let us tell you that United Spirits is a UB Group company but Vijay Mallya is no longer its chairman. From 2013 onwards, business problems started increasing for Mallya and in 2016 he was removed from the post of chairman of the company. He was facing financial crisis and meanwhile on 25 February 2016, a statement was issued by United Spirits Company that Vijay Mallya has resigned from all his positions in the RCB franchise. Along with this, he also left the post of director of RCB. That means Vijay Mallya was last seen as the owner of RCB franchise in 2016.

Who owns RCB now?

Although Vijay Mallya has left RCB, the ownership of the team has now gone to United Spirits Company instead of Vijay Mallya. Mallya is no longer with the United Spirits company, so he no longer has any connection with the RCB franchise. Mallya currently serves as the chairman of United Breweries Group, one of the world's largest liquor conglomerates.

A look at RCB's success in IPL

Royal Challengers Bangalore may have never been able to become IPL champion, but the team has reached the qualifiers and finals through the playoffs several times. RCB has reached the playoffs 8 times in its history and the team last came in the top-4 in 2022. Apart from this, RCB also reached the finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016, but faced disappointment every time. In IPL 2023, RCB was ranked sixth in the points table.
