Chaos in IPL meeting, differences among team owners including Shahrukh, Kavya Maran!
- IPL team owners held a meeting with BCCI
- Discussion on retaining players before mega auction
- Differences between team owners
Yesterday i.e. on 31st July, an IPL meeting was held. The biggest agenda of this meeting was to retain the players before the mega auction of IPL 2025. According to the IPL rulebook, till now there was a rule for each team to retain 4 players, including no more than 2 foreign players and no more than 3 Indian players.
According to sources, every franchise has a different opinion about retention before the mega auction. This difference of opinion between them came out in the open in the meeting called regarding IPL and there was an uproar. Shahrukh Khan, Kavya Maran, Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia attended this meeting. Everyone stood by their arguments.
Why are there differences between team owners?
Now the question is why did such a situation arise? Why do the franchise owners not have the same opinion on retention? According to sources, KKR owner Shahrukh Khan is insisting on retaining as many old players as possible in the team. Therefore, Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia is completely against him in buying more and more new players. At the same time, Kavya Maran was seen insisting on keeping foreign players in the team. The question is what is the logic behind such statements?
Why does Shahrukh Khan want more retention?
According to sources, Shah Rukh Khan is insisting that he should not drop more of his players and keep them in the team for the next season as well because those players have made him a champion. This is a bond between the players, which he is in no mood to break. He wants the original spirit of the team to remain intact. This is the reason why he is in a mood to retain as many players as possible.
Punjab Kings demand minimum retention, but why?
According to sources, Ness Wadia, the co-owner of Preity Zinta's team Punjab Kings, had a completely different opinion on this. Ness Wadia's emphasis was on releasing as many players as possible. Not on their maintenance. The reason behind this is his team's failure in IPL.
What is Kavya Maran's argument?
According to sources, Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran also jumped into the fight between the owners of KKR and Punjab Kings. She presented her argument. According to Kavya Maran, there should be no restriction on retaining players. BCCI should give this decision to the franchise owners. She said that the strength of some teams is their capped players and some uncapped players. Some are winning on the basis of their domestic players and some on the basis of their foreign players. Kavya Maran admitted that the strength of SRH is foreign players.
It is obvious that in a meeting where there is so much disagreement, there will be chaos. And the same was seen in the meeting regarding IPL. However, it will be interesting to see what action BCCI takes on this now.
