Can Mumbai Indians still reach the playoffs? learn equations

- Mumbai Indians are at the bottom 10th position in the points table
- Later on, the door for Mumbai was almost closed.
The performance of five-time champions Mumbai Indians has not been good in the IPL 2024 season and the team is currently at the bottom 10th position in the points table. Mumbai has played 11 matches so far and won only three. Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, the team has failed to perform as a unit and despite having many excellent players, the team has not been able to make an impact. The current season of IPL is now ending and all the teams are trying hard to reach the playoffs. The doors ahead for Mumbai are almost closed, but in the changing equation it is too early to say that it is impossible for Mumbai to go to the playoffs.
How will Mumbai still reach the playoffs?
If Mumbai has to perform a miracle and reach the playoffs, it will have to win all its remaining matches. Mumbai has three matches left in the group stage. On Monday, Mumbai will face Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Hardik Pandya's team will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Supergiants. If Mumbai loses even one of these matches then all doors will be closed for them.
Based on results of other teams
If Mumbai wants to make it to the playoffs, it will have to pray that other teams in the race for the playoffs do not get more than 12 points. However, this is an almost impossible task as currently Hyderabad, Lucknow and Chennai have taken 12 points each. Mumbai will have to hope that at least two franchises miss their remaining matches. At present the teams of Kolkata and Rajasthan are at first and second position respectively with 16 points and Mumbai team cannot take the place of these two teams. However, if KKR and Rajasthan team get big wins against other teams then Mumbai can benefit.
Mumbai will have to register a big win
Mumbai's net run rate is currently -0.356 and if somehow Mumbai manages to win its remaining three matches, then the road ahead will not be so easy for it. Mumbai will have to win all the matches by a big margin to keep their net run rate positive, but if any team scoring 12 points has a better net run rate than Mumbai then Mumbai's journey will end this season. Cricket, especially the T20 format, is completely a game of chances and teams do not give up till the end.
