Biggest update on IPL auction, know when and where the auction will be held?
Recently the Governing Council of IPL has made a big announcement regarding the retention policy. Revealing the retention policy of IPL, the Governing Council said that now all the franchises will be able to retain a total of 6 players from their current team. After the retention policy, now big information is coming out regarding the IPL 2025 mega auction.
According to media reports, BCCI is considering organizing a mega auction in a city in Saudi Arabia. Although no venue has been decided yet, the name of Riyadh or Jeddah is definitely in the mind of BCCI officials. Dubai in UAE is also an option, but not the preferred option at the moment. The mega auction of IPL 2025 is expected to take place in the last week of November this year.
Big trouble against BCCI
According to a report, finding a suitable venue or hotel has proved challenging so far for the BCCI. It is believed that there is a problem in determining the location in Saudi Arabia. Costs in Saudi Arabia are much higher than in Dubai. The last auction in Dubai was held in December 2023.
It was earlier reported that London was initially shortlisted for the mega auction, but the BCCI decided not to hold the auction in the UK due to the cold weather at this time of the year. The BCCI and IPL officials are now looking for a venue that can hold the auction over two days and accommodate the entire IPL contingent, including a large delegation from the 10 franchises and two broadcasters – Jio and Disney Star.
Franchises are busy preparing to retain the player.
The IPL Governing Council, in its recent decision, said that all 10 franchises will be allowed to retain a maximum of 6 players from their previous team, including those with 'Right to Match' (RTM) cards, from the auction. Earlier, in the last mega auction held in the year 2022, a team was allowed to retain a maximum of four players. After the disclosure of the retention policy, now all the franchises have started preparing the list of retained players as soon as possible.
