Big blow to Delhi, BCCI bans Rishabh Pant for 1 match

The Delhi Capitals team playing in the Indian Premier League has suffered a big setback. Their captain Rishabh Pant has been banned. Rishabh Pant has been banned for one match for Delhi Capitals' slow over-rate offense in the match against Rajasthan Royals. A fine of Rs 30 lakh has been imposed on Pant.

Pant violated IPL code of conduct

If we understand the whole matter, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been banned for one match for violating the IPL code of conduct. Actually, during match number 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Pant's team bowled at a slow over rate against Rajasthan Royals. The match was held on 7 May 2024 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

Fine on all players including Pant

This was Pant's team's third offense under the IPL code of conduct this season under slow over-rate, so Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 30 lakh and banned for one match. Now the rest of the members of the playing eleven, including the impact players, will be individually paid Rs. Rs 12 lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lower, has been imposed.

Delhi Capitals challenged the decision, then…

Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the match referee's decision under Section 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct. After this the appeal was sent to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. After this the Lokpal conducted a virtual hearing of the case. After this the decision of the match referee is considered final and binding.

This is how fines are imposed for slow over rate in IPL

Under the IPL's code of conduct regarding slow over-rate, the team captain is fined Rs 12 lakh for a first-time offence. If that captain commits a slow over rate offense for the second time in the IPL season, a fine of Rs 24 lakh is imposed. On committing the mistake for the third time, the captain is banned for one match and fined Rs 30 lakh.
