BCCI announced the rules of IPL, this rule came for the first time, what changed?
The Governing Council of IPL announced all the rules for IPL 2025 after a meeting held in Bengaluru on Saturday (September 28). This time, major changes were seen in many rules. Now before the mega auction, teams will be able to retain a total of 6 players. Meanwhile, a big revelation has come to light regarding the 'Impact Player' rule. So let us know whether the Impact Player rule will be seen in IPL 2025 or not.
During IPL 2024, many questions were raised on the Impact Player rule. Many veterans believed that due to dominant players, the importance of all-rounders in the team is decreasing. Many cricket experts had also demanded the removal of this rule. However, BCCI did not hold any hearing in this matter.
The 'Impact Player' rule will continue
Let us tell you that along with the new rules, BCCI has also announced that the Impact Player rule will continue in IPA 2025 also. Not only in the 2025 IPL, this rule will also continue in the 2025 to 2027 cycle. BCCI introduced impact player rule in 2023. People have had different opinions regarding this rule since the beginning. It is believed that due to the arrival of influential players, big scores are being seen in IPL. Big scores provide good entertainment to the fans. In such a situation, BCCI would not like to make any cut in the entertainment of the fans.

Teams can retain 6 players
Before the mega auction, IPL franchises will be able to retain 6 players. Different salary slabs have been made for these players. The retained list will include 5 capped and one uncapped players. The price of an uncapped player can be up to Rs 4 crore. Whereas the value of a capped player will be much higher. The price of the first retained player will be Rs 18 crore. The price of the second player will be Rs 14 crore and the price of the third player will be Rs 11 crore. Similarly, the price of the fourth player will be Rs 18 crore and the price of the fifth player will be Rs 14 crore.
Auction date yet to come
It is worth noting that the date of mega auction for IPL 2025 has not come yet. Now it will be interesting to see when BCCI announces the date of mega auction.
Teams' auction purse increased
IPL said in its media advisory that the auction budget of the teams has been increased. Teams will have Rs 120 crore in IPL 2025. If we look at the 2024 season it will be Rs. ₹110 crore which includes the auction purse and incremental performance pay. Now it has increased to Rs 146 crore in 2025. This amount will increase to Rs 151 crore in 2026. Thus, by 2027 it will become Rs 157 crore.
What are the big rules of IPL 2025 season?
- All franchises will now be able to retain a total of 6 players from their current team. Of these, only 5 players (Indian and overseas) can be capped, while a maximum of 2 uncapped players can be retained.
- It will depend on the franchise how they want to retain the 6 players. The franchise can retain all 6 players directly or choose the 'Right to Match' (RTM) option in the mega auction. Or you can keep some and buy the rest with right to match.
- Match fee has been introduced for the first time, under which each player in the playing eleven (including impact players) will get Rs 7.5 lakh for playing a match. For this, the franchise will have to set aside Rs 12.60 crore every year, which will be separate from the auction purse.
- The auction amount has been increased from Rs 100 crore to Rs 120 crore. Whereas, the total salary limit (auction purse and incremental performance pay) is now Rs. 110 crore to Rs. Has reached 146 crores. Out of this Rs. The auction amount will be Rs 120 crore. Rs 12.60 crore as match fee and the rest as additional performance payments. This salary range will increase to Rs 151 crore in 2026 and Rs 157 crore in 2027.
- Despite all the controversies, BCCI has decided to retain the impact player rule. This will continue not only in the next season but till the 2027 season.
- Also, strict action is being taken against those foreign players who come to the mini auction only in an attempt to earn more money. Under the new rules, foreign players will also have to register for the mega auction. If he does not do this, he will not get a place in the mini auction of the next season.
- BCCI has also taken action on the biggest complaint of the franchise owners and that is the withdrawal of players' names before the season. BCCI has made it clear that if a player withdraws his name before the start of the season after being bought in the auction, he will be banned from the auction as well as the tournament for the next two seasons.
- If a capped Indian player (who has played or is playing international cricket) has not been part of the playing XI of any format in international cricket or part of a BCCI central contract in the last 5 years. So he will be considered an uncapped player.
